To avoid this, there are various methods to implement such as 301 redirect, canonical tag or meta robots tag. In 301 redirect, the duplicate page will be redirected to the original page whereas in case of canonical tag a code should be included in the HTML head of the webpage. Besides, using ‘noindex’ in HTML robots tag is another method to block duplicate content of a website.

Robots.txt file or Robot Meta-Tag

If you want to restrict users accessing some of your webpages then it needs to be mentioned in a robots.txt or robots meta tag. When search engine crawler visits your website, it looks for robots.txt or robot meta tag to decide whether to crawl and index the page. The robots.txt is a text file that should be located at the top-level directory of the website, whereas robot meta-tag is a HTML tag to be included in the source code of a web page.

XML Sitemap

A website will be visible in search engine results only if it is indexed by Google. Sometimes, search engines may overlook to crawl some of your important website content and the pages may not get indexed by Google.
