Growing use of marijuana is also increasing the negative effects of the drug. Many number of studies found numerous adverse effects of the drug. But, still the use continues and despite of the harmful effects the number of the people using this illicit drug are increasing frequently.

A new study from the University of California, which was published in European Journal of Immunology, studied how smoking marijuana can trigger a suppression of body’s immune functions. They also revealed why cannabis users are more susceptible to certain types of cancers and infections.

As told by the researchers, cannabis is one of the widely used drug worldwide and the fact that it suppresses the immune system and makes the person susceptible to many cancers is already found. Their new inventions found the unique type of immune cell, called MDSCs, which caused this suppression and hence made their research successful.

Unlike all other immune cells which help to fight against infections, these MDSCs supress the immune system against cancer therapy and hence promote cancer growth. And these cannaboids are triggering the MDSCs through the activation of cannaboid receptors. For the first time, the present research showed that marijuana suppresses the immune system by activating MDSCs.

This study also showed how MDSCs produced during cancer growth also weaken the ability of immune cells to kill cancer cells. Hence, once again it is proved that marijuana is dangerous.
