Porsche is working on a hybrid version since long time and at Geneva auto show the sports car company from Stuttgart has revealed its gasoline electric gran Turismo which is a hybrid version of Panamera.

Porsche Panamera S Hybrid develops a total output of 380 horsepower-333 horsepower from a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 and 47 horsepower from an electric motor. It also can serve as the car’s generator and starter too. It is combined with decoupler, to form the compact hybrid module located between the combustion engine and the transmission. It gives a mileage of 60 MPG on special low rolling resistance tires and for the standard tires fuel economy is 33 mpg. Panamera S Hybrid will still accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 6.0 seconds flat and go all the way to a top speed of 168 mph. Electric motor acceleration carries the car to just over 50 MPH, then the engine kicks in. Power transmission is by eight speed automatic transmission.

The car can also travel on electric power alone and the range in purely electric model is 1.24 miles with electric driving speed possible up to 53 mph.

Porsche vehicles uses a parallel full hybrid system called as Sailing, which reduces fuel consumption at high speeds by switching off the gas engine, when the driver lifts off the accelerator and coasts at highway speeds. On pressing the accelerator again, the gas engine starts within milliseconds. The Porsche Panamera S Hybrid and Cayenne S Hybrid SUV also contain this system.
